Ask a grown-up to say each word. Say its first sound and circle the matching letter.

sun: s; kite: k; leaf: l; map: m. Use the sounds in the words rather than the letter names.

Let the child talk through their choice. A finger trace, pointing or saying a number can be a useful starting point before writing.
