Free macOS storage guide
Why is System Data so large on a Mac?
System Data is a category, not one folder. Its total can include caches, logs, local backup snapshots, application support files and items macOS has not placed elsewhere.
Why the number moves
The storage display is an estimate that can change while macOS indexes and classifies files. A sudden large figure does not prove corruption or identify one safe thing to delete.
Use evidence before action
- Let the Storage view finish calculating, then record the free-space figure.
- Restart normally and compare the result.
- Review applications and personal files you recognise before touching hidden folders.
- Confirm that a current backup exists before making a material change.
The paid boundary
The EasyFix book explains the deeper decision routes, while MacHealthCheck produces a local, read-only report. This page deliberately does not publish the working command or reproduce the paid chapters.
